I would like to know if there is any program out there (free or
commercial) that can send a message to a pager via a modem.
Right now my system (SPARC ELC running SunOS 4.1.3 by the way)
is monitoring certain services and I would like it to beep me
when a particular service goes down. Does anyone know where to
find such a software? Thanks.

Get in touch with Instrumental, Inc. in Minneapolis. They have a product
called PerfAlert which fits the bill. It is available on several platforms,
one of which I believe is the SPARC. Contact:

He described to me a setup for the product that is almost verbatim what you
ask for.
