Put in a Solaris cd, and

ok> boot cdrom -s
# TERM=sun; export TERM
# fsck -y /dev/dsk/cxtxdxsx  <- what ever your device is
# mount /dev/dsk/cxtxdxs0 /a
# vi /a/etc/shadow      <- remove root's passwd
# reboot

See the manual, use an installation medium, a tape you can boot from,
call the technical support or find a security leak and crack your
machine .. yes, even this has been done 8)

So where did he say it was a SOLARIS box?  You SUN worshipers
shouldn't assume that everyone is saddled with SUNs.

The method for recovering the system depends on which UNIX system
you're running.

You could tell us what type of box this is, for starters.  I mean, is
it the one you're posting from?

Not entirely true if you have access to the console.  Or
do you consider Irix on SGI to be a pseudo UNIX.

IRIX on SGI is a UNIX system, Bill.  See www.opengroup.org.

                        Hope this helps,
