Need help from any Unix Admin on Server Problem

Post by Rob Richar » Sat, 26 Jul 1997 04:00:00

I am programmer now consulting for a company writing CGI scripts.

They are not too fluent in Unix or its administration.

a couple of months ago their server crashed (No backups available -
long stroy)...

anyways..

Now, a couple times a day, their server will not allow any ftp, telnet
or CGI script to run.

For ftp and Telnet I get the message conection lost.

For the CGi script I get the message:

 Server Error

This server has encountered an internal error which prevents it from
fulfilling your request. The most likely cause is a misconfiguration.
Please ask the administrator
to look for messages in the server's error log.

Could anyone help in determining what is wrong and how to fix this??

Need this ASAP as they are lost on what the problem is.

Thanks

Rob

On many UNIXes the is an allow/deny file for this.  Maybe a cron jobs is
turning off ftp access for the time(s) in question.  Go check the
crontabs directory for possibilities and also check the cron log for
jobs that run about the time in question.
