I have a SUN SPARC 20, Solaris 2.3, with a tape backup unit. Connected
to the network are PCs running PC-NFS 5.1. I am trying to provide
unattended backup for the PCs to the tape backup unit on the SUN. I
understand there is a SUN product called Networker that will accomplish what I
need. What are peoples experience with networker and are there other
products available or ideas?

works great in your environment. No client side software.

Or if you are running WfW on your PC, look at samba and sambatar
available from a PD archive near you...
