Well, I decided to get a name server running on our network so I got
hold of bind-4.9.

I configured one machine as the primary server for our domain and it
almost works.  Here is a copy of a working nsquery.

/usr/local/src% nsquery -d n2610
        ;; res_querydomain(n2610, auspost.com.au, 1, 1)
        ;; res_query(n2610.auspost.com.au, 1, 1)
        ;; res_mkquery(0, n2610.auspost.com.au, 1, 1)
        ;; res_send()
        ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 1
        ;; flags: rd; Ques: 1, Ans: 0, Auth: 0, Addit: 0
        ;; QUESTIONS:
        ;;      n2610.auspost.com.au, type = A, class = IN

        ;; Querying server (# 1) address = 127.0.0.1
        ;; got answer:
        ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 1
        ;; flags: qr aa rd ra; Ques: 1, Ans: 1, Auth: 0, Addit: 0
        ;; QUESTIONS:
        ;;      n2610.auspost.com.au, type = A, class = IN

        ;; ANSWERS:
        n2610.auspost.com.au.   14400   IN      A       202.20.8.1

        Name: n2610.auspost.com.au
        Addresses: 202.20.8.1
        Aliases:

Now here a one that doesn't work properly.

/usr/local/src% nsquery -d n2610.auspost.com.au
        ;; res_querydomain(n2610.auspost.com.au, auspost.com.au, 1, 1)

        ;; res_mkquery(0, n2610.auspost.com.au.auspost.com.au, 1, 1)
        ;; res_send()

Does anyone have any idea what I have done wrong?
