UNIX System Administration Manager
Downtown San Francisco
Our client has a very senior staff of UNIX System Administrators;
they know the Solaris environment very well and how to support a
production environment. Our client wants someone who can take this
environment and staff further, not only to enhance the environment,
but also bring in more tools (either buy purchase or specifying for
in-house development), put more structure into the environment,
and look at opportunities where things can be automated.
This position reports to a Systems Director with about 50 people in
the areas of: LAN, UNIX Infrastructure Team, Firewall Team,
Application Development. The candidate will be responsible for just
the UNIX environment; not the LAN.
Our client needs a UNIX person who thinks like an NT person, i.e.,
ease-of-use and ease-of-administration. They need a person who can get
tools developed that will make UNIX easy to use and administer with a
GUI approach. (Our has developers who can develop the tools if they
are told what to develop.) That takes vision and knowing UNIX
very well. One of the missions of this job is to take cost-of-ownership
out of UNIX. To do that they are going to have to develop some tools
because our client has not seen anything on the market that can do that
for low-end Solaris systems (i.e., non Enterprise systems)
They really need a person with a lot of leadership in the UNIX world.
