XTerminals?! Font problem in Solaris <--> SunOS interaction

Post by Jay Bea » Fri, 26 Feb 1999 04:00:00

**** Please email me directly with any suggestions! ******

I've turned a few old IPX's running SunOS 4.x into
XTerminals by having them run Xsun at startup throwing
out indirect XDMCP queries to a login server machine
(Solaris 2.6 machine, running dtlogin).

I'm having font problems, so far only with Emacs.
The following is my attempting to use emacs...  emacs would not start
at all and terminated with the "Font '-dt-interface ....' is not
defined" error.  xemacs did run, but with a host of similar errors...

Before starting either, I set the environment variable on the login
server machine:

        setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/openwin/lib

Further explanation/error messages follow...

1. >>> -- Need help with ZapfDingbats font on Solaris 2.6 -- <<<

Hello all.
On Solaris 2.6, eventhough file ZapfDingbats.f3b exists in
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3, the xlsfonts command
does not list it.
As a result I get the following message when running several Java
applications:
Font specified in font.properties not found [-urw-itc
    zapfdingbats-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-sun-fontspecific]
The problem is that for some reason this specific font is not recognized by
the system; maybe I should add the path
somewhere, but I don't know where !!!!!
Please help.
Thank you very much.
