What are the possible causes of a "Device not ready.  Addition sense code
error 87. or some such message when I try to access the CD-ROM?

Sincerely,

I assume you are using a Sun compatible CD-ROM (most "PC/Mac CD-ROM drives"
will not work on Sun).  If not, please see my FAQ at
http://saturn.tlug.org/suncdfaq for more information.

1. Troubles with CD-Writer and now alos with CD-rom

System
Piii-500mhz
Seagate 17GB (Master)
Quantum 6,4Gb (Slave)
Plextor Writer 32x12x10 (Master)
Aopen 32x CD Rom (slave)

Me = Newbie in linux, just started with Mandrake 7.1

I can't use my CD-WR, and since yesterday I can't use my CD-R player as
well.
I thouhgt I figured it out with the help of the tutorials at mandrakes
site, but that didn't work for me.

A collegae told me to check /etc/mtab
This is what was there (at this time my CD-Rom still worked)
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount rw,fs=iso9660 0 0
/mnt/cdrom2 /mnt/cdrom2 supermount rw,fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/cdrom2 0 0

I changed line 1 (without any result though) in:
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount rw,fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/cdrom 0 0

Mtab at this moment contains these lines (CD-rom also doesn't work
anymore):
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount rw,fs=iso9660 0 0
/mnt/cdrom2 /mnt/cdrom2 supermount rw,fs=iso9660 0 0

I searched deja and found some postings that sounded familiar, but I just
didn't understand what the answers where saying. I mean, i can do what
they tell, but I would'nt inderstand the least of it. Soooo unsatisfying.
Things like mtab, fstab en conf.modules etc, I don't understand these
things, but i want to! Therefore my questions if someone can enlighten me
some. Especially the relation between all these things. Or tell me where
to find the information needed, because I'm having trouble finding my way
in the enormous amount of info on the web.

Thanks in advance

Greetz,
Derk Jan
