Browsers can't see files called htm as html files...?

Post by Larry Lei » Fri, 09 Aug 1996 04:00:00

I mirroring a server on to one of our unix boxes here on campus. The
problem I running into is that the place I'm mirroring must be running on
a dos based machine because all the html files have the htm extension.
Files with a html extension work fine on the server but when netscape or
any other browser tries to look at files with the htm extension it
returns the source file... Is there something I'm missing. When we were
using NCSA this wasn't a problem. Now that we are runnin Apache 1.0.5 is
doesn't work. Is there a switch I need to turn on???

Thanks

In  mime.types find line
text/html                      html
and change it to
text/html                       html htm

You're missing something.  Check out your srm.conf and mime.types file(s)
to make certain that you have .htm extensions associated with
text/html mime types.

OR just set your server's default to text/html instead of text/plain.

1. Apache don't show .htm files as html

Hi,
I have added the extention htm in the mime.types file und restarted the
httpd. Nothing happens. I allways see the *.htm files as plain text.
What's going wrong.
Any hints are welcome.
