Apache 1.3.1, IRIX 6.2 & shared core

Hi,

Is it possible to build Apache 1.3.1 with a shared core under
IRIX 6.2 or what am I doing wrong?

I used 'configure --enable-rule=SHARED_CORE' or
'configure --enable-module=most --enable-shared=max
--enable-rule=SHARED_CORE'
and run make. Both configurations ended up in the follwing output:

<=== src/modules
        cc -c  -I./os/unix -I./include   -DIRIX -n32 -DSTATUS
-DUSE_HSREGEX -KPIC -DSHARED_CORE -O2 `./apaci` modules.c
        cc -c  -I./os/unix -I./include   -DIRIX -n32 -DSTATUS
-DUSE_HSREGEX -KPIC -DSHARED_CORE -O2 `./apaci` buildmark.c
        ld -n32 -shared -o libhttpd.so buildmark.o modules.o
modules/standard/libstandard.a  main/libmain.a  ./os/unix/libos.a
ap/libap.a regex/libregex.a
ln libhttpd.so libhttpd.so.1
ln libhttpd.so libhttpd.so.1.3
ln libhttpd.so libhttpd.so.1.3.0
        cc  -I./os/unix -I./include   -DIRIX -n32 -DSTATUS -DUSE_HSREGEX
-KPIC -DSHARED_CORE -O2 `./apaci` -n32   \
              -o libhttpd.ep -DSHARED_CORE_TIESTATIC main/http_main.c \
                  -L. -lhttpd

Building Apache with a static core runs well. By the way I'm using
the development environment 7.2 or 7.2.1.

Thanks,

Valentin

Why do you want to?

Shared core is really only designed for systems where it is required,
and there is very little reason to use it if you don't have to.

I probably misunderstood something: A shared core is only needed
on some systems to enable support for shared modules? There is no
advantage (memory usage) to have a shared core? Right?

Correct.

None, unless you want to use different (not just running the same one
multiple times, but actually different ones) httpd binaries with
the same shared core.  Since doing that doesn't make much sense... there
really isn't any memory (or other) advantage.

Using dynamically loadable modules doesn't really save you memory
either, but is convenient.

1. Apache & IRIX 6.2 => Re: what happened to somaxconn in 6.2?

Interesting: thanks!  How can I identify what, if any, Apache (I'm using
1.1.1) would be using as limit or is it the same as MaxClients in the
httpd.conf? (there's no reference to somaxconn in the Apache sources...)
