CERN 3.0 and its mysterious messages !!

Post by Marco Faustinel » Wed, 25 Oct 1995 04:00:00

Hello,

Is there an URL where I can find the explanation of the errormessages of the
CERN 3.0 server ?

What does "execve() failed" mean ?

Here is the whole story:
I have a HTTPD CERN 3.0 server and I cannot run any CGI script.
I have set correctly the Exec rule; my programs are very simple perl
scripts.  Each time I try to exec one of them I get the message:

Error 500; execve() failed

This message is sent back to the client, as well as printed in the log
report of the server.
Have you ever seen this ?   What does it mean ?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot !!

Does it really does this for every script?
I would try a very simple shell-script that only prints
out date and time.
Maybe it's your pearlscript that does something that it shouldn't.

Sounds like it won't execute. If the script isn't in cgi-bin, which it
probably isn't given the message, you need an Exec statement in your
httpd.conf file and then restart httpd to allow you to files in that
directory to be "executable."

Also, try running httpd in verbose (-v) mode. It's a lot of info, but
it helped me track down permission and executable problems.

Good luck!

it seems that the perl script cannot find their 'perl'. try checking
the first line of the scripts, it should show something like
'#!/bin/perl'. If perl is not there (/bin/perl) try creating a symbolic
link to where it does exist.

1. Caching Cern httpd 3.0 does not forward POST messages

We have installed a Caching Cern httpd 3.0
We are having problems with http requests that use POSTs.
It looks as if they are not forwarded, but handled by the httpd.

Who has an answer to this ? Do we have to build a cgi to forward POST?
