Cgi processes doesn't finish

Post by Jose Jesus Rivera Corte » Tue, 14 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,
I have 10 hosts with Solaris 2.5.1 and recently I've updated all the web
servers to Netscape-Enterprise/3.6 SP2. They are mirrors of the same
site (they have the same web data structure)
The site also contains some cgi stuff, and occurs that sometimes one
concrete cgi doesn't finish the execution and the host begins to
accumulate processes corresponding to that cgi, until the O.S.  runs out
of processes.
The number of CgiStub processes in the web server is not excessive when
this problem occurs (5 or 6 at most), and restarting the web server
doesn't solve the problem. Besides this problem happened at the moment
only in one of the 10 hosts; precisely one of the most loaded.
Even though it probably could be a cgi source code error, for the
administrator's point of view, Is there something i could do to prevent
and solve that problem the next time? (by the moment I have a kill -9
crontab to that cgi) What about changing the MinCGIStubs, MaxCGIStubs
and CGIStubIdleTimeout variables in magnus.conf file?
Thank you very much

Out of curiosity, were you previously using Apache? If so, why did you
change?

1. spanning a shell that doesn't return when process is finished?

howdy

i need to write a script which in some cases will call xterm with its
-e (execute) option followed by a program to be executed. But I don't
wish the shell to return as soon as that process finishes, since that
would lead the terminal app's window to close immediately without
allowing the user to see the output. How can I do this without
explicitly requiring, eg, a key press from the user? Another good
solution would be to offer the user a shell in that same xterm once the
original process returns.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
