Memory Leak in Apache 1.3b3 NT 4?

Post by Arunas Salkauska » Wed, 08 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

I couldn't find a reference to this anywhere, but I might be blind.  Has
anybody else encountered a massive memory leak in Apache 1.3b3?  I don't
have b5 yet since at last check there wasn't a compiled version for NT.

After a few hundred hits, Apache swells to something like 11 megs on my
machine.  Which is significantly larger than all the web content on my
server!  I can appreciate that it might grow somewhat, but at some point the
cache should contain the whole site, and not grow anymore....no?

Any ideas?

TIA,

Memory Leak in Apache 1.3b3 NT 4?

Arunas--

I remember reading about it *somewhere*-- either in the bug reports
for Apache (on the Apache homepage), or in some email someone sent
me.  Having personally seen such leaks in action (some resulting in
server errors after just 20 hits, one at a time over an hour!), I'm
forced to switch to another server software until Apache's a little
more stable on NT.  You may want to consider doing likewise.

Anybody wanna recommend any good books on MS-IIS?
(just kidding)

Memory Leak in Apache 1.3b3 NT 4?

Sorry.  Never mind, I found that it is in fact a known bug.

I've gotten around it by setting MaxRequestsPerChild to something smallish.

Cheers!

Yep...I have this same problem.  I've taken steps to curb it, by
having the server switch to the 2nd child process every 1500 or so
hits.  This can be configured with MaxRequestsPerChild 1500 in
httpd.conf.

Works for me, since I don't usually get too many hits on this box.

1. Apache 1.3B3 for NT 4.0 -- How to move Log files

Hi,

Under UNIX - it's no problem moving a log file, since Apache doesn't lock
the files.

Under NT - it's no go, the files are open, and I can't figure out how to
reduce my log files without restarting the server!  I could of course be
missing some crucial information, either on NT or Apache...

Can somebody please help shed some light for me?

TIA
