How to report Hit info to my users?

Post by Stephen Brettschneide » Sat, 27 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I have setup my first httpd server using Apache 1.0.  I have configured it
to allow my AIX users to create their own personal html/cgi pages in their
personal directories.  My question is this.  How do I report hit informtion
back to them.  I know that I have some log files that grow in
logs/access_log and logs/error_log, but I want to be able to give them
access to a file or a anchors to links that can give them information
about their page specifically.

Anyone, anyone, going once, going twice...

Thanks,
Steve

We've got the same problems with our public server.  We did have a nightly job that resets the
access log nightly and computes a summary from the raw logs.  The users could run a script from
their shells that greps for their summary info out.  (Computing the daily stats was done with
something like MUSAGE, http://www.blpes.lse.ac.uk/misc/musage.htm)
I say all this in the past tense as we've come to the point that even the daily log files are too
huge to handle.  Now we are working on solutions to conserve log space while still allowing
individuals to access daily stats.
