Help a Little LINUX Girl ;)

Hi!!! thanks for reading....
I have a LINUX running APACHE httpd service.....
and in the same net i have another computer NT running the real WEBSITE software that
responds to www.domain.co.il
Actually the LINUX is the DNS server, but it came with the APACHE built in ;(
When i write i a BROWSER domain.co.il i go to the wrong HTTPD service in the LINUX box

I want to configure the LINUX to
1) or SHUT DOWN the httpd
2) or make any conf to tell him "when someone comes here, send him to www.domain.co.il"

Please helppppppppppppppppppppp
Thanks
Caroline

Hi !

You can edit /etc/rc.config and set the value of START_HTTPD to no
or you can do the same thing using the install-software.

The IP-numbers AND names of the 2 computers must be **different**:
The WinNT should be called www.domain.co.il, or should have an ALIAS
as www.
The Linux is the DNS-server, so normally you call it ns.domain.co.il

you can test the DNS configuration with dig or nslookup.
HTTP-request for www.domain.co.il should now go to the WinNT machine.

To stop the httpd on the LINUX (apache) you should look in one of the
startupscript on your computer.
Normally these script are located in /etc/rc.d
Also look in the file /etc/inittab for a line with httpd in it.

Caroline,

You should edit the startup scripts in the Linux box to not start up the
httpd server.  And, make sure the DNS server has the correct IP address
for www.domain.co.il.  You'll have a problem if the NT box and Linux box
have the same IP.

I'm not sure if I got the correct problem from reading your post...let
me know if you need more info.

Well right off the bat, Ill tell you that you have a DNS table problem.  Lets
say that you want www services to go to www.domain.co.il.  Lets also say your
DNS is called ns.domain.co.il.  Both of these machines must have separate IP
addresses!  People should NOT be getting directed to your DNS if they request
www.domain.co.il.....  If you want http://domain.co.il to ALSO go to the NT
box, you need to edit your dns table to contain an entry like:
(assume for this that www.domain.co.il is 127.0.0.1):

www.domain.co.il.  A       127.0.0.1
domain.co.il.           A       127.0.0.1
ns.domain.co.il.        A       127.0.0.2

apparently, you have domain.co.il. pointed to www....

You dont need to do this really since you have a dns problem to resolve...
But it is possible:
in your apache config edit srm.conf to contain the line:
Redirect / http://www.domain.co.il

Mike

1. Help a little Girl ;)

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii everybody!
It's me again! i need some help, to perform a control task!

I have a LAN connected to the Internet is the follow way:

Internet--------CISCO 2500----HUB---NT SERVER
                                \___LINUX BOX (DNS and MAIL)
                                \___INTERNAL LAN

I work at the NT server, that is the WEB server.....
I want to make a LOG file of the IPs in the Internal LAN
and what they do, there are some people in there  downloading
TONS of MEGABYTES.... of irrelevant stuff, and i want to
prevent this puting in the company's MSGs board the list  of
IPs and what they do in the Internet. I want the LOG file
to have ip, protocol they used (ftp, http, irc, NEWS etc)
which add. they connected to (the ftp, http sites, names of NEWSGROUPs etc)

Number of MEGABYTES, downloaded....
A perfect example of a report would be:

ip              time           protocol           megabytes name of file
190.34.2.2    12:23              ftp                3.4       name.exe
190.34.2.2    12:40              NEWS               .5        picture.jpg

....

Is there any combination of the ROUTER logging that data and a parser
out there?.... maybe using the LINUX box...

Thank you!!!!!
Caroline
