Dedicated Unix dedicated Server

FYI-
I'm a web developer considering getting a dedicated UNIX server from a
reputable firm and I found this offer

Sun Sparc One with 10 IP addresses, 32 MB of RAM, 1 GB of HD space
hosted with a company which has multiple high speed connections to the
net for $289 per month.

Thoughts, suggestions?

It seems to be a great offer.

Acutally, I dont know how good...
A Sparc One (not an Ultra One) is a 20mhz Sparcstation circa 1988.
You could buy one (refurb, of course) for about $400.

Any restrictions on the amount of bandwidth you are allowed to consume?
What OS is going to be running on it?  Solaris?  SunOS?  Which version?

It's a Sparc 1.  This means that it is a _very_ slow machine.  However, if
you don't have any other bandwidth restrictions, the deal probably is not
too bad.

Well it seems to me that you should hurry up and call that ISP back and
asak him how soon he can get the server running!!  It seens like a GREAT
DEAL to me and I am an ISP.

Good luck,

1. Linux dedicated UT server vs. Win32 dedicated server ?

Hello

I have a UT dedicated linuxserver at home. The hardware is not the fastest,
but it works good for me and my friends. We can play with 2 human players
and 4 bots. The server is a P133, 64 MB EDO Ram on an Iwill P54TS Board with
an 3c900B XT 10/100 Networking Card. Do not laugh about the fast CPU :-)

Ok, I would known if a NT Server configured on the same machine with a Win32
UT dedicated server is as fast as the linux server who is installed at the
moment. Who needs more system memory. The NT or the Linuxserver ? Who has
the better networkingperformance  ( low pings, little lag ..)

is it advisable to change from linux to NT or is it better to leave the
system as it is ?

Thanks in advance
Frank
