Apache w/ Redhat8.0 & Account Permissions

Post by Patric » Thu, 17 Oct 2002 11:47:21

Hello,

Just installed Redhat 8.0 today, and using the apache install that comes
with it. I have already modified the config file so that it allows user
directory's (was disabled by default...not sure if it was by redhat or
not) but I have one problem... Apache cannot access the users files,
because it does not have the proper permissions. So, I have that figured
out, but this is where I get stuck... How do I make it so that the user
apache can access the user's public_html on my system?

Thanks,
Patrick

1. Check the apache error log.

2. Check the unix permissions on /home /home/user and
/home/user/public_html.  Make sure that each has at least global
search access (chmod +x).

1. Apache & SSI & Directory Permissions

Recently we were playing with SSI to place the last modfied date on the
html page.  I noticed that for this to work all directories upto and
including the one with the html file needed to be either mode 7 or 5 for
the www group.  We currently have all user dirs 711 so that nobody can
look into another persons directory.  Is there some change that can be
made to the server that will allow it to get past the 711 home dir to a
755 www dir and read the last modified date.  I think it's crazy that it
can read the files with these permissions but can't find this date.
