An addition to the "Failed CGI" and "Error Log for Apache" threads

Hello,

Some Netscape Navigator 3.03 (Win95) users have had trouble submitting
CGI requests to an Apache version 1.2.4 server (BSDI 3.0) at my company.
Symptoms: Netscape "meteors" for several minutes followed
by a "Document contains no data" message, and a "lingering close
lost connection" message in the Web server error log, or else
a "read request headers timed out for (hostname)" in the error
log.

I researched this error on Deja News and discovered a recent
thread that appears to describe similar problems:

Subject:      Failed CGI

Date:         1997/10/13

Newsgroups:   comp.infosystems.www.servers.unix

This thread has expired off my news server, so I cannot conveniently
reply in the same thread (sorry). I am cc'ing all participants in
the thread because I may have something new to add.

Netscape recently posted a technical bulletin acknowledging a bug
in Netscape Navigator 3.02 and 3.03 which can lead to a similar
problem. Netscape claims to have fixed this problem in version 3.04,
and our observations are confirming this. See:

http://help.netscape.com/kb/client/971014-42.html
Nav 3.02 receives a read failed error when trying to post.

I apologize if this is old news to everybody, but I did not see
any reference in this thread to Netscape's article. The similarity
in dates makes me wonder if any thread participants reported this
problem to Netscape and prompted the article...?
