Linux, Apache, lcok

Post by Pasi T Mustalaht » Tue, 30 Sep 1997 04:00:00

My server made an unexpected boot and after that Apache was down.
Trying to start it with httpd i got:

Cannot open lcok file

Then it just stayed there waiting for something. Pressing Enter helped
me out of this but Apache didn't start.

I removed and reinstalled apache-1.0.5-2.i386.rpm.
It didn't help.

There isn't a file named lcok.

What to do ?!
(I have read all help and FAQ -files, I have found :)

Get rid of 1.0.5, throw it out the door.  Anything still shipping with
anything that ancient is crazy.  It should not be used.

Get 1.2.4.  There may be a RPM for it, you would have to check.  If
not, it doesn't take that much to compile yourself.

A quick way around this may be to create a /usr/tmp directory, but
the version is so ancient...

Firstly apache-1.0.5 isnt just old, its prehistoric.

Since you have RPM, an rpm -Va will verify all the packages are intact
in case your sudden crunch did damage something.

1. Apache 1.0.0 returns: Cannot open lcok file

I am trying to run Apache 1.0.0 on a Linux 2.0 box.

When Apache is started:

Nms1:~# httpd -f /usr/lib/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

- the system returns:

Nms1:~# open: No such file or directory
Cannot open lcok file

It seems to be looking for some file and for a "lcok" file (lock maybe).

The whole /usr/lib/httpd directory is an exact copy from a linux 2.0
system where Apache runs without problems.
The big difference is that on the box where it does not run, not the
complete Linux 2.0 distribution is installed.

The question is now: What is missing on the system?
What files (apart from those under /var/lib/httpd or /usr/lib/httpd)
does Apache look for when starting up?

Rgds,

Jos
