Site that some can access, and others cannot - maybe related to proxy servers

Greetings all:

This problem is strange and I would greatly appreciate any hints.

For those that can access it, they see the standard Apache test page.
Those that cannot see it eventually get the error "Server quit sending
data."  Those that cannot access are usually behind another firewall,
and using a proxy server.

http://www.veryComputer.com/

(Don't get e*d, it is a * system with nothing but RedHat s/w)

The server is behind a LinkSys firewall, if that matters.

Again, any hints on how to troubleshoot are appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
T.

I get apparent connection, but no reply (netstat -at second attempt):

tcp    0    0 efflandt.xnet.com:1046  pppoe0027.ld.c:www-http FIN_WAIT2
tcp    0    0 efflandt.xnet.com:neod1 pppoe0027.ld.c:www-http ESTABLISHED

Any URL that does not reference a specific filename should end with a
trailing slash (my second attempt did include it).  Check your ServerName
and UseCanonicalName docs and settings.

Marc:

Nice document.

It sounds plausible.  Did you confirm this, or are you simply
suggesting that this is the likely cause?

_MANY_ thanks!

I confirmed that:

1. I can't ping the server.  So at least some ICMP is blocked.

2. I can not access the site from my workstation.  It hangs if I try.

3. If I force the MTU on my network card down before trying to connect,
it works.

All symptoms of a PMTU-D problem.  So it is a very likely cause, but
not a definite cause since that can't be determined for sure remotely.

1. Can access to Web server through SmoothWall, but Mail server & others can't ?!

Hi all,

I've install smoothwall(with green & red cards) on one of the machines
in my system and configure the external service access as follow:

TCP   ALL   80   Enabled
TCP   ALL   25   Enabled
TCP   ALL   110  Enabled

and Port forwarding as follow:

TCP   80   192.168.1.5  (static ip address of my web server)    80
Enabled
TCP   25   192.168.1.10 (static ip address of my mail server)   25
Enabled
TCP   110  192.168.1.10 (static ip address of my mail server)   110
Enabled

I get no problem of accessing my web server through the smoothwall,
but I can't reach my mail server. I'm sure my mail server is working
properly if the smoothwall is not in between.

Does anything i miss, or any configurations I set wrong, pls advice.

Kevin
