Apache & SSL - Stronghold, Raven, OpenSSL, ModSSL & ApacheSSL

Post by PB » Wed, 11 Oct 2000 04:00:00

I'm pretty new to both Apache and SSL so any help will be appreciated.

Our company distributes boxes with our software that runs on FreeBSD and
Apache server. I am trying to define what needs to be done to implement
SSL.

From my reading I found that for commercial use you need Stronghold or
Raven (for RSA patents). However since these patents have expired is that
still the case?

What is actually needed to support SSL? Just Apache, ModSSL/ApacheSSL and
a certificate?

Does Verisign support ModSSL and ApacheSSL?

Thanks,

Pawan Bajaj.

No and you should no longer use the rsaref library.

That's about right. To build either mod_ssl or +SSL you will need to
get Apache sources, openssl and that specific package. As an example
see http://www.modssl.org/example/

yes.

1. Apache, Raven SSL & only 40-bit Encryption

Hi.  We're trying to get the Raven SSL module for Apache 1.3.11 installed
and configured properly on a Linux server.  Everything seems fine except
that the server will only give a 40-bit encryption key.  According to the
faq on <http://www.covalent.net>, the most likely cause is that the browser
isn't capable of anything more.  We get a 128-bit key from
<https://www.covalent.net>, however.  So I think this is [wrong].

Anybody else run into this?  Any hints?
