AIX printerdriver for 1100C

Post by W.F.K. Wetering » Sat, 14 Mar 1998 04:00:00

Hello out there, i have problem maybe someone out there has tackled
this.

Im on AIX 4.1.x and am using the tools XWD/XPR to make dump of a screen
to a printer. This works fine with a black & white Postscript printer
like the HP5Si.  Now i want to print the screen in color to a HP 1100C.
I have used  the ljet option under AIX and this works fine for B & W but
not for color.

Please HELP....

xwd doesn't capture image colors and doesn't put color selection
commands into the PostScript.

WFK,

This will work for the HP DeskJet 1100 - making effectively into
a PostScript printer, and image -enabled too. It handles 8 bit and
24 bit screen captures well.

Check out Vividatas PostShop product.  It supports over 900 printers and
canbe downloaded for a free evaluation from www.vividata.com.  PostShop:

1.  Allows you to print PostScript, PDF jobs and ANY OTHER TYPE of image
file
(JPEG, GIF, TIFF, Sun Raster...) to non-PostScript printers at high speeds
and with exceptional print quality.  You can now get better print quality
from
a $400 printer than you could otherwise get from a $5,000+ printer.

2.  Prints image files to PostScript printers **10 to 100 times FASTER**
by using our "rasterize ahead" technology, and again, with much better
print
quality than you would otherwise get.

3.  Greatly augments the lp and lpr commands to allow you to send image
files directly to printers WITHOUT having to open an application.  You also
can
control scaling, brightness, dpi, add footers and headers, etc. right from
the command line.

4.  Supports network printing even for printers that don't have network
interfaces.

I believe the HP1100C is a Winprinter.  You might want to check HP's web site to be sure.  If it is, you are basically screwed, because with the win printers they basically just took out all PS or PCL processing fromthe printer to make them cheaper.  And you can only get drivers for Win95 and 3.1.

If it were, but it isn't: the 1100C is a PCL3 printer and works
just fine with various Unix-lookalikes and whatnot. Even PostScript
can be had with a couple of software solutions (GhostScript and
some other I've forgotten).

On the other hand, DeskJet 1000C *is* a Windows-only printer
and everything you said applies to it.
