Using <ALT> as META-key in TCSH.

Using <ALT> as META-key in TCSH.

Post by Steve Yohan » Tue, 25 May 1993 10:35:01

I am using tcsh within an xterm shell and want to be able to use the
ALT-key as my META-key for the command-line editing features.

All the commands work with their ESC-key counterparts but I don't know
how to specify (if it's even possible) the ALT-key for META.

Any suggestions?

Insert the following in your ~/.Xdefaults file:

xterm*VT100.Translations:    #override \
        ~Meta<KeyPress>: insert-seven-bit() \n\
        Meta<KeyPress>: insert-eight-bit()

1. <Alt>+<key> = <Esc><key> ?

Hi,

How should I tell Xserver to treat simultaneous press (in editor) on
<Alt>+<E> as <Esc><E>, like under VC. Now it returns A with circle on
top.
Therefore, I want the same behaviour of Alt_L under X and console.

Best regards.
