i know how to kill the error beep in a X term window
but now i am strictly console and the same `set` comand dosnt
work in the term

useing bash2 on linux

any one have any ideas other than turning of
the sound in my bios?
thats the way i am handeling it now but i cant hear my modem so it
i have to tail my log file to see when i have a conection
and quake just isnt the same whit out sound
not that i play it very often because i cant seem to get quake to
work with with out rebooting into a non framebuffer mode

I put "set bell-style none" in /etc/inputrc (it was in the bash man
page). That quieted things down.

well not realy but i didn't want to go and find out what app oned
that file and killall -HUP it
i'm on a lappy so its not all that long between reboots

seekout lsof, it is your friend <smile>  I think also, fuser though
somewhat more limited can work in this situation also.
