tcsh tabbing unexpectedly

tcsh tabbing unexpectedly

Post by Charles A. Li » Sat, 04 Jul 1992 22:01:24

Hi,

I am currently working on a sun4 workstation.  From this platform
I telnet to a cray which is located in CA by using the command:

Quote:>> telnet xxx.xxx.xx.x

The cray that I connect to uses csh, but I prefer to use tcsh.  Some other
user has tcsh 6.00.03 which I execute by typing, at the prompt:

Quote:>> exec tcsh

The problem I am having is when I do a ls.  While in csh if I do a ls I get:

jpl_cray-43: ls
base.com       grid*          net.info       snstvdin       tvdout
cal.inc        grid.f         param.inc      timetvds.f.Z   tvdoutput
cray.bat       gridin         param1.inc     tvd2out
done.f         makefile       sendq          tvdin

If I then exec tcsh as follows:

jpl_cray-44: exec /u5/clind/tcsh

Then do an ls, I get the following:

jpl_cray-41: ls
base.com       grid*          net.info       snstvdin       tvdout
cal.inc        grid.f         param.inc      timetvds.f.Z   tvdoutput
                                                                     cray.bat       gridin         param1.inc     tvd2out
                                            done.f         makefile       sendq          tvdin
                 jpl_cray-42:

What is happening is tabbing all my lines.

Does anyone know what is causing this.  The tcsh is unsupported on the cray
and it is a use at your own risk software.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

1. Script GURUs - a tab is a tab is a tab

I have ascii files created by various people I want to run something
that will look for tabs and based on the tab length convert tabs to the
right number of spaces, however the above people use various tab
lengths and do their indenting a little differently. Does someone out
there have a solution to this type of situation?????

you might have a solution.

Thanks in advance

Jim
