Question about variable TZ (TimeZone)

Question about variable TZ (TimeZone)

Post by Nan-shan Ch » Fri, 03 May 1996 04:00:00

Hi:

Could you please point me to detailed explanations about the
syntax of TZ. I am converting system time to GMT using the
Borland library function gmtime() that reads the var. TZ in
order to convert the time.

My thanks in advance for any help

Regards

1. TIMEZONE (TZ) not set

SunOS ssp01a 5.7 Generic_106541-10 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10

Although /etc/TIMEZONE is a symlink to ./default/init and ./default/init
contains

TZ=MET

my TZ after login is "US/Pacific". Sure I could set TZ in /etc/profile
but I want to keep my systems clean and use them as designed. Why
doesn't it work the way it's described?
