PLEASE HELP ME !! My local PC client can't (E)SMTP connect to sendmail 8.7

Post by Christophe Dumon » Fri, 22 Nov 1996 04:00:00

I installed my new version of AIX 4.2(IBM). With this, IBM officialy
precompiled sendmail 8.7. All seems working (alias,...) but my local PC
client (Eudora, Nestcape Mail, Inetrente Explorer Mail) are hunging when
they connect to sendmail to send a message.

After debugging, when I issue a 'telnet ip.address smtp' I have the welcome
message from sendmail 8.7 with ESTMP, NOT SMTP. I can issue the HELO
ip.address, but when I issue the RSET command there is no response from
sendmail. In fact to have the response to the RSET, I have to previuosly
issue a VERB command. I think the problem is there. How can I tell sendmail
to verbose or is-it because sendmail seems to only respond using ESMTP ?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

-Christofer

I think this is the problem we also had. Try setting the machine's LANG to C POSIX via smit.
There is an APAR out on this. I don't have the number:( Call IBM.

Known bug.  You can either install Sendmail 8.8.3 by yourself (it's not
all that hard at all), or you can get a fix from IBM via FixDist.

1. SENDMAIL 8.7/8.7: Runs REALLY SLOW - Why?

I've got Sendmail 8.7 installed on this here machine, and for some reason,
it takes a LONG time (30+ seconds) for the sendmail daemon to start up.
It's like it's looking for something, can't find it, times out, and then
runs itself.

Has anyone else had this problem?  I'm invoking it like this:
/usr/lib/sendmail -bd -q30h

Why for art this happening?
