Disk space used/free

What command can I use to see how much space is free vs. how much space has
been used on our server. We're running AIX 4.2.

Thank You,

David Armstrong

Other than the standard du and df commands, aix provides several other neat
capabilities: lspv, lsvg, lspv -p, lspv -l etc etc ...  Wish I had that
capability on other platforms.  have a look at the man pages.

Hi David,

lspv hdiskX displays drive stats, Free PP's is available/unallocated space on
that physical drive.

lspv -l hdiskX ; displays logical volumes created on drive.

lsvg -l vgname ; displays all logical volumes in volume group.

lslv lvname ; displays logical volume statss

lslv -l lvname ; display logical volume to physical volume mapping

Good Luck!!

If you are also interesting how the free space is distributed inside a file
system, you should download
the following free utility : place which is available at
http://www.compunix.com

If you execute :
    place -v -f /dev/lvxx
the output will show how used blocks versus free blocks are spread across the
filesystem. It will also
provide you with fragmentation information.

1. Strange disk free space/used space...

Hi,
I seem to have lost a lot of disk space to no idea what: for example /boot
shows 25MB used, but when all files are listed the total is just 19MB;
/home - 500MB/362MB; /var - 600MB/417MB.
Any idea what is causing this, and how to rectify the problem.
