mksysb doesn't restore my . . .

mksysb doesn't restore my tcpip settings or my imported volume groups.
Does anyone know why this happens?  I'm assuming the mksysb should
restore the tcpip settings.

Also, does a volume group need to be varied on for mksysb to realize
it should be part of the restore image?

It will restore your settings provided you restore the mksysb to a machine
that is a reasonable facsimile of the source AND if you stored the settings
in the ODM (which means you did the IP config with smit and not ifconfig).

mksysb only backs up rootvg. See the savevg command for non-rootvg volume
groups...

Well, I'm positive that the tcpip setting were added with SMIT, and
I'm restoring to the same machine I backed up, and it still didn't
work.  Twice I've tried it, and twice everyone has told me that I
'should' have worked.
any other thoughts.

Right, I should have been more detailed.  What I meant to ask was once
my system has been restored it has no knowledge of any imported VG's.
I don't need the other VG's restored, but I was expecting to see them
with a lsvg command.  The other VG's are imported from a SSA drawer,
but everytime i restore the mksysb, i have to re-import them.  is this
normal?

It should restore the settings.
Please check with "netstat -nr , lsattr -El inet0 , lsattr -El ent0 ,
lsattr -El en0 " what is really missing.
( commands from memory , smitty is always a friend )

Yes it is. You can add a custom script to your mksysb which does import the
remaining vg's
See bosint.data ( hopefully correct ) for more details

Hajo

BTW:
mksysb does only backup MOUNTED filesystems from the ROOTVG.

If your mksysb was done before the groups were created, it wouldn't know
about it.  Also I've seen this problem before so the importvg is a quick
solution.
