TCP/IP misconfiguration: HELP!

Post by Shankar Ramamoorth » Fri, 19 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Having problems with an RS/6000 box running AIX 4.2.1.

This machine was configured as a NIS client as follows:
IP:             192.168.85.9
Netmask:        255.255.255.0
Default router: 192.168.85.254

Moved it to another net where the numbers are in 10.10.x.x.
Its new IP needs to be 10.10.20.69. The NIS server is now 10.10.20.68.
The default router is 10.10.10.2.

I booted into maintenance mode using the CD and imported the
volume group etc. Then I used smit to change the IP address, netmask,
default router etc. The IP & netmask changes took but NOT the default
router. It still thinks the default router is 192.168.85.254!

Now when I try to boot into normal mode, it brings up the AIX
logo and the little console window says its unable to find the
NIS server and it never gets to a point where I can log into it.
Can't telnet in either.

Tried the following from maintenance mode:
1. Used smit to try to reconfigure as not a NIS client
   This fails.
2. Created /etc/gateways with following entries
host 10.10.20.68 gateway 10.10.10.2 metric 1 passive
net  10.10.0.0   gateway 10.10.10.2 metric 1 passive
   No effect.
3. Moved /var/yp out of the way

Any suggestions?

Shankar

did you remove the NIS client config before disconnecting ?

if you have a serial terminal attached you could try
smitty yp
and unconfigure as NIS client
route -f
then
smitty tcpip
and configure your network adapter with the correct gateway, otherwise
check out the
route
command.

good luck
