7137 RAID Drive failure??

Post by J. Volkman » Sat, 07 Dec 1996 04:00:00

We are getting two errors on our RAID 7137 unit:

Error Code: 7950  and Error Code: 7957

Diagnostics via smit refer to a failed drive/drive electronics.

We have tried replacing the failed drive.

Does anyone know what these codes refer to??

From the manual:
        7 = Drive Error 1 Drive on Port, Availability maintained
        9 = DFHS=S2F (2GB) - on Model 7137-413 or 513
          = or DFHS-S4F (4Gb) - on Model 7137-414 or 514
        5 = Drive Location (Slot 5)
        x = Error Qualifier (Type)

Also from the manual:
        7tpx .. indicate that the failure occurred with device parity
        protection turned on and a single drive on the port.
        Availability has been maintained..

   x=   0 - Device error reported by this drive (Drive Assembly)
        7 - Comms failure - unable to establish communications,
           No response from drive, disk drive IS present and
           Drive regulator card are good.

        Perform  recovery procedure on page 3-28 (URC ktp7)
        Data protection is enabled.

        Remove Drive & Inspect connector pins on backplane.
        If pins are bent, replace backplane.

        If not, reinsert drive and reset it

        If this fails, get the error code from the 7137
        If still 7957, replace drive regulator card.  Reset

        If still failing, try replacing the drive...

They are all in the manual as above.  You need to start a drive
replacement procdure on the drive for the data to be rebuilt.
For this, you need a manual for the codes concerned and how to
start the procedure.  It has to be done at the 7137 keypad.

1. Adding drives to 7137 RAID

We have an IBM 7137 RAID that we want to add 3 additional drives to.  I have
the instructions on how to physically add the drives to the RAID, but I'm
not sure what to do on AIX (ver 4.3.2.0) to make the new space recognized
and usable.  Our RAID is setup as a single drive (hdisk1) with multiple
logical volumes none of which are in the rootvg.  Will I have to restore the
data to hdisk1 after adding the new drives and is there anything special I
have to do on AIX to make the additional drives usable?
