Upgrading to new computer & OS version

We are upgrading from an older RS/6000 to a new RS6000 that is Year
2000 compliant. The new machine has AIX 4.3.2 and the old machine has
AIX 3.2.  We have only one large database application on the old
machine and I have moved it to the new system across the TCP/IP
network.  I am concerned about moving the operating system
miscellaneous files (device drivers, scripts, etc.) without stepping on
the new operating system.  My though was to load 4.3.2 onto the old
system using a migration install, and copying everything to the new
system.  The file system on the new system is exactly like the file
system on the old machine.  The old machine backup device is and IBM
cartridge and the new machine has a 4mm DAT tape drive, so I will have
to move files across the TCP/IP network.   I feel like I am missing
something here but I dont know what is.  If anybody has upgraded an
older computer to a new computer with a new version of the operating
system, I would love to get any pointers.   I there is a better way to
do this? Please advise.

Upgrading to new computer & OS version

my advice to you is this:

do a fresh 432 install on the new box, move your DB over and make sure
it works.  then move all your in-house scripts to the new box.  don't
worry about the device drivers since they're usually already on the 432
CDs unless of course you have some non-ibm stuff connected to the 32 box.

this will get you a much cleaner box to admin for the rest of your life
with the company there.  you'll probably thank me for this years from
now...

and if you have any freebies from the Net, just grab the latest versions
and recompile them.  don't run the 32 binaries on 432 - not saying you can't,
it's just not the best way to do it!

1. Question running C++ compiled application on newer OS version versus on older OS versions of AIX?

My question is, taking the latest AIX C++ 6.0 compiled binary on a 5.2
version and running it on an older version AIX OS such n such as 3.2 to a
4.1 version, will there be any complications for that binary to execute? Is
so, can you please give me some examples?

Appreciate any input you can give me.

Thank you,
Jt
