Hi everybody out there,

can anybody answer my stupid question?

Is a binary Executable generated on AIX 4.2.1
running on an AIX 4.3.x box?

Any answers will be appreciated.

Thanks juergen

Sure.  You can go up, but not down.  An app compiled at 4.3.x will NOT
run on an earlier version of AIX.

Actually, thats not entirely true.  I have taken several homegrown
programs that were compiled on a F50 running 4.3.1, dropped them onto a
43P running 4.2.1, and they run fine.  However, I only make use of
standard C library calls and standard OS calls.  I would be cautious
taking a binary back-level, but it can be done.
