Some of our employees are complaining about ksh's
behaviour, when using a telnet / ssh connection to the
server.

Obviously the vi editor is set as the default editor in the
ksh. Is it possible to get a windows-like behaviour, so that
pressing the backspace button really deletes the char instead
of filling the screen with nerd stuff?

By "nerd stuff", I take it you mean you are seeing ^H^H^H^H when
a user presses backspace?

You can do "set -o emacs" in their .kshrc *or* set stty erase '^h' in
their .profile.

We like the nerd stuff.  However, "nerdstuff" is
semanticaly nil.  What happens when they press del ?
What happens when they press backspace ?
What is the terminal emulator.
What are it's settings ?
What is the value of TERM ?

Try the "emacs" mode by typing :

set -o emacs

You'll have to add aliases to map the cursor keys to the emacs cursor
movement commands (in .kshrc):
alias __A="^P"
alias __B="^N"
alias __C="^F"
alias __D="^B"
