We have an app on an RS6000 in Universe/AIX that prints to a Hp 5000 via HP
jetDirect(TCPIP) after every job we get an extra blank page.

I have set all the headers off in smit etc. If you print directly to the
HP5000 from AIX ie. lp -dHP5000 it prints the job and NO extra page...

ANy thoughts would be appreciated

In Unidata (ardent also) the SETPTR command has a "NOEJECT" option or and
"EJECT" option. Do a SETPTR at ECL and see if the settings have one or the
other. It may have an EJECT option, in which case, that would explain why
you get a page eject after each print job in UNIVERSE and not at the os,
unix.

Are you printing any commands at job end that changes the cpi or lpi or
fonts?

Try using lsvirprt and looking at the _Z attribute of the print queue. _Z is
"send form feed at end of job" and you could try turning that off.

First look at your printer setup (in printrer) if exists, then look at print
queue characteristics, and at the end look at
printing attributes. Man pages are very usefull (in case of changing printing
attributes).
