Could AIX 4.3.2 handel raw devices ???

We made the experience, that one of our AIX 4.3.2
boxes, we could not create raw devices under db2
5.2 latest fixpack. According to DB2 support this
problem
could occur, if we enable the EXTSHM parameter.

Curious is that with a slightly older AIX 4.3.2
patch level, same database level, we could not
reproduce this error. The EXTSHM parameter is
enabled on the second box as well....

The whole AIX crash if we try to create raw
devices on the first box - second box is stable.

The only supplied fix we got is a merge to 4.3.3
together with IY09243 APAR.

Nevertheless we find this behaviour very strange,
and are interested regarding comments from other
raw device users.

Wierd, we loaded 4.3.2 and walked into a few problems with
aio and raw devices, firstly the aio isn't enabled by default,
fixed that.

Secondly creating a raw device on aix, no-one tells us that
the first 5KB is used by the O/S, informix loved that.

Aside from that, we've had no real issues, a few speed
problems, but nothing else.

We have had no problems using raw disks with adabas - which does come with
its own drivers.
