Network printer problem

Hi experts,

I=B4m having a lot of network printers on my system and if someone
prints to one of these printers , which is having a problem at this tim=
e
(e.g. paper out ....) , the owner of the application programm
gets the following message displayed on his terminal :

     Message from queueing system:
rembak: (FATAL ERROR): 0781-244 File acknowledgement sent, but not=

received.
rembak: errno =3D 4: A system call received an interrupt.

and a mail like this:

     Message from queueing system:

       Backend:      usr/lib/lpd/rembak -T15 -S d426.europe.heraeus.com=
 \
               -P pr1 -N /usr/lib/lpd/bsdshort -o -d -o p -o -X -o 850 =
\
             /usr/sap/H11/DVEBMGS00/data/SP07674C
       Backend Exit Value: EXITFATAL (0100)
     Job Submit Time: Nov  2 15:20:52 1998,  Current Time: Nov  3 14:35=
:06
1998
     Use local problem reporting procedures.

The Problem is that these message comes when the user works for example=

in the vi editor and destroys the written text. This message appears ab=
out
every
10 minutes and so often is a mail sent to the user also.

Did anybody knows how to tell the qdaemon to be quiet?

TIA

Axel

Network printer problem

Axel,

You can try:

1) A "mesg n" so these messages don't come to the users screen.
2) Using lsvirprt and adjusting the _A attribute to specify the notification

should go to e-mail and not the screen
3) There is another virtual printer attribute (name escapes me at the
moment) specifying the user to receive "intervention messages" and
note that not all printing messages are "intervention messages"
4) Try TCPrint from http://www.flash.net/~laixsoft so your queues don't
go down when your printer is out of paper thus eliminating the problem

Best regards,
Paul Laymon

1. Network Printer problem

You might run into problems.  The HP Jetdirect cards will only keep
packets alive for one hop.  If you go across a router or  whatever, te
packets will drop and you'll never be able to print to the JetDirect
card (directly).

Possiblity: Put another SCO box on the other net, and have the sco
boxes do remote printing.
