2-Port Multiprotocol PCI Adapter Problem

2-Port Multiprotocol PCI Adapter Problem

Post by Quenti » Sat, 31 Jul 1999 04:00:00

We have a AIX421 43p with the 2-Port Multiprotocol PCI adapter.
We use it for SNA connection. We using SNA ver 3.1.2.11
The menu ask we to install IX84978 if we use AIX421.

But , the sna connection do not work if we apply IX84978 (with
devices.pci.33112ib9 4.2.1.8) or install devices.pci.33112ib9 4.2.1.9 .

After we uninstall the above updates and reinstall devices.pci.33112ib9
4.2.1.0, the SNA connection work normally.

Do we miss any important thing?
Thanks for any help!

2-Port Multiprotocol PCI Adapter Problem

Post by Paul Landa » Sat, 31 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I'm not sure why it is not working, but here are some things to consider:

1) SNA ver 3.1.2.11 has been out of service for several months.
The currently supported product is "CS/AIX v5", 5765-D20.

2) The description of APAR IX84978 implies that it is for
running X.25 over the 2-port PCI card.  If you are running
SDLC then it may not be needed.  If you are running X.25
you should maybe update the AIXLink/X.25 code also.

3) If you are running sdlc, did you also update:
        devices.common.IBM.hdlc.sdlc

4) The description of APAR IX84978 says it is for an EC
for the adapter.  This means the adapter itself is replaced.
EC = Engineering Change - IBM terminology for h/w change.
If your adapter is old and has not been replaced, try
running diagnostics ('diag' command) with the new level
of the device driver loaded.  If diags fail with the new
device driver, report a h/w problem and get the card
    replaced.

1. 2-port multiprotocol PCI adapter problem

Hi
I 'm a french AIX user
In a 7026-H70 machine, with 2 2-port multiprotocol PCI adapters
one PCI adapter works well and the other not

lsx25 shows

ADAPTER     DRIVER     PORT     COMIO     TCPIP     NUA     LOGICAL
LOGICAL     PHYSICAL

BOARD         PORT             PORT
dpmpa0 hdlc0 sx25a0 x25s0                                              9
0                     0                         0
dpmpa0 hdlc1 sx25a1 x25s1
0                     1                          1
dpmpa1 hdlc2 sx25a2 x25s2
1                     4                         0
dpmpa1 hdlc3 sx25a3
1                         5                         1

x25sessions shows
Following ports are in available state

        x25s0
        x25s1
        x25s2

x25status shows

                                                                    ACTIVE
ACTIVE    ACTIVE
PORT            ETAT         PAQUET             CVC     CVP     ECOUTES
sx25a0  Connect(e)                                     1             0
3
sx25a1  Connect(e)                                     0             0
3
sx25a2  Connect(e)                                     0             0
0

sx25a0 and sx25a1 works well but not sx25a2

Question :
1) Why lsx25 says num_port = 4 et num_port = 5 and not 2 and 3 ? Can I
change it ?
2) I think it's an hardware problem, what diag can i use ?
