dlpi & aliases on interface => system crash

dlpi & aliases on interface => system crash

Post by Laurent Paute » Sat, 20 Nov 1999 04:00:00

AIX version : 4.3.2.0

I'd like to have some inputs on a problem we discovered recently :

    We encounter a system crash while using a DLPI program that is binding
an
interface which has several ip adresses as aliases (actually 3 addr for the
interface). The Program begins ok, but system is crashing after several
seconds of activity. The program is using DLPI through the libpcap 0.4
(interface
in NON promicuous mode).
    The same program runs perfectly well with interfaces with no aliases, or
with aliases with very low trafic.

    I'd like to know whether somemone ever heard of any trouble of this kind
?

Thank you in advance.

Laurent,

I am also working with DLPI and libpcap under AIX.  I found that
the DLPI driver under AIX 4.3.2 would crash.  Did you try
updating the fileset which contains the DLPI driver?

I have:

% lslpp -l bos.rte.tty
  Fileset                      Level  State      Description
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Path: /usr/lib/objrepos
  bos.rte.tty                4.3.2.4  COMMITTED  Base TTY Support and Commands

You may also want to grab the latest versions of libpcap and tcpdump
which are being maintained at http://www.tcpdump.org

1. 2>&1 |tee && 2>&1 >out

Hi Shell Gurus:

 I am all confused here. Consider the following two commands:

 $ cmd 2>&1 | tee logfile

 $ cmd 2>&1 > logfile

 In the first case both stderr and stdout go to the logfile but not in the
second case. Can someone explain me the reason. This is ksh 93. Is the
shell smart to look ahead of 2>&1 construct to see if the output is
actually going to a pipe??

 Thanks
 -Ajay
