Help with 4 yr old RS6000/AIX 4

Post by Steven Roge » Fri, 13 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I've just aquired a RS6000/320H. The console is a wyse terminal
connected
to the serial port. as the system starts to boot, it hangs as it's
starting the tcpip daemons. The last daemon to load is snmp, others
loaded before are syslogd, sendmail and inetd.

Is there anyway I can start the system with no networking. I checked
the aix faq but found nothing.

Any help please !!

Cheers
Steve

1. Help with 4 yr old RS6000/AIX 4

I've just recently been asked to revive a 4 yr old RS6000 box that
should work! I'm really new to this and I don't know what the model
is of the box, but it looks like a PS/2 and has a LCD display on the
front of the case that shows numbers when it starting up.

Theres and external scsi box connected with disks in it and an external
exabyte 8mm tape drive. The console is a wyse terminal connected to the
serial port. When it boots messages are written to the console but,
after it start the networking (inetd etc) the thing hangs? I have been
given the disks for the system but they are all labelled diagnostic.

Somebody told me that there is a key sequence to use to make it ignore
the network ?? so that I can login !

Can anybody help ... please

Cheers
Steve
