I found it myself!
I mistyped "DS:mailhost". It must of course read "DSmailhost".
Sorry ...

dead.letter although mail successfully sent

Hi all,

I just set up one of our AIX boxes to send SMTP mail through
a relay host. It works, mail gets delivered to receiver on a
remote box - BUT: the mail is also appended to "dead.letter"
in my $HOME. Any ideas?

With "mail -v" I see one message I can't explain:
deliver: null host name in signature
no match in Info Hider ... (needless to say). Is this something
to care about? As I said: The mail gets delivered.

When sending mail to local users or users at hosts that can be
reached without the relay host no dead.letter occours.

Thanks for any and all hints!
Heiko

I forgot: This is 4.2.1

1. dead.letter will not go to directory specified in DEAD variable AIX4.3

Can anyone help with my problem with the mail cmd and the DEAD env var
to change directory of dead.letter.
On my system the dead.letter will not go to directory specified in
DEAD variable (AIX4.3)

I did the following:
/home/user1> export DEAD=/home/logger/mail/logs
/home/user1> mail someone
next type some crap en press ctrl^d. The following appears:
/home/user1> someone... User unknown
/home/user1/dead.letter... Saved message in /home/user1/dead.letter

I have read and write permission in every directory mentioned here.
I just can't get the mail deamon to place the dead.letter somewhere
else.

Can somebody help?
(AIX4.3.3.0 RS6000)
