xlC - Warning messages

                                         Hi Everybody,
I'd be very grateful if someone told me how to force xlC ver 3.6.4 (AIX) to
display warning messages. I searched its man page but couldn't find the word
"warning" ;)

For example, it doesn't react if I assign a negative value to a variable
which was declared as unsigned !?!

On the other hand when I compile my programs on gcc (Linux) all warnings are

You can try -qinfo=all, but I don't think that the assignment of a negative
value to an unsigned will be caught.

xlC - Warning messages

I highly recommend the C++ code checkers PC-lint and FlexeLint
for this.  They're available from Gimpel Software,
try http://www.gimpel.com.  I use PC-lint on Windows NT at home,
and FlexeLint on UNIX (SUN SPARC Solaris) at work.
FlexeLint is supported on many other platforms as well.

Hope this helps!

1. Odd warning messages: [warn] (22)Invalid argument: setsockopt: (TCP_NODELAY)

I'm seeing hundreds of warnings in my Apache error_log that are baffling
me -- for example:

    [Thu Nov 29 00:29:56 2001] [warn] (22)Invalid argument: setsockopt:

What would be the cause of these messages?  Initially, I saw about 1-2 per
minute, and didn't see these before when we used Apache without mod_ssl.
Now, it is occurring with more frequency.

We use Apache 1.3.22 with: JServ 1.1.2, mod_ssl 2.8.5, OpenSSL 0.9.6b -- on
a Solaris 8 box.
