Can I boot RS/6000 from 3570 Magstar MP tape instead of vanilla 8 mm
tape ?

Yes you can, I have booted an E20/E30 from a 3570 Magstar tape and restored
rootvg from that tape on several occations ....

Yes you can boot from Magstar or Magstar MP ....

IF YOUR RS/6000 has a POWER2 CPU or newer

actually the CPU has nothing to do with the problem

it is only the firmware on pre POWER2  motherboards did NOT support booting
from
a diferential device. :-)

We learned it the hard way ... at a Disaster recovery test  :-(

Need I say we failed the test.

If you need a menu driven interface to do system administration
you probably shouldn't be doing system administration.

I gathered I wasn't very well liked.  Somehow, the feeling pleased me.

Oh, that's it.  You're right, I had tried (and failed) on an older
machine.
