External HP JetDirect Printer Type and Port #

External HP JetDirect Printer Type and Port #

Post by Ken Abrahamse » Sun, 09 May 1999 04:00:00

I will be installing a External HP Jet Direct connected to a Parallel
printer and was wondering:

1. What AIX HP printer driver to specify when setting up the AIX virtual
queue.
2. What's the port number for the Parallel port off the External Jet Direct?

We'll be using a serial dot matrix printer across a WAN link, so it's not
really a 'HP device'. This is for AIX 4.3.2. The AIX printer driver
selections I have to choose from are:
HP II
HP III
HP III si
HP IV
HP IV+
HP 4000
HP IVsi
HP IVv
HP Vsi
HP VsiMopier
HP 8000

Thanks.

External HP JetDirect Printer Type and Port #

If you're using a dot matrix type of printer, perhaps the generic ASCII may be a
better choice than an HP laser printer model.  Single port JetDirect servers
(both internal and external) accept incoming print requests on TCP port 9100.

1. Printing to Multiple printers - HP JetDirect external server and SCO 5.0.2

I'm looking at a client who wants to have print queues setup on his
OpenServer box. These queues will be printing to a single JetDirect 500
print server. This, perhaps, is a newbie question - I've never approached
this unique problem before - but I'm no stranger to SCO (OpenServer *or*
UnixWare) and this issue puzzles me greatly.

I have all the appropriate software, I believe. I have hpnpf running on
the box and can create queues left and right. I don't, however, know how
to specify a particular _port_ on the print server. Is this something I
can set within SCO?
