Help! Sony SDT-9000 w/ IBM AIX

Post by Shan Zongya » Thu, 23 Aug 2001 03:21:14

Hi All,
I need help to use Sony's SDT-9000 (12/24GB) tape drive with IBM AIX
4.3.3. The tape drive is working fine with DDS2 tape(4/8G), but only
store about 1.6G data on DDS3 tape, which suppose to be able to keep 12G
data. I use tar command with IBM generic tape driver. If anyone had
successful experience, please advise.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Shan

Have you set the block size to 0 in smit ?

I'm no expert with these drives, but I believe (for example)
early Exabyte drives set to a driver blocksize of 512 would
dutifully record 512 bytes in each (1k) physical tape block,
which sounds like the sort of problem you might be experiencing.

Thank you for the information, I tried block_size=0, 512, 1024 and 2048 with
density=0 or 37. It didn't help. It stored much less data on DDS3 tape than
DDS2.

1. Help with Sony SDT-9000 SCSI tape drive

I'm using RHL 6.0 on Intel and I'm trying to access my Sony SDT-9000
SCSI tape drive.  I'm not a Linux newbie, but I've never tried to get a
SCSI device to work on it, so I'm a newbie in that area.  The SCSI
adapter is an Adaptec 2940.  Linux appears to "see" both devices, but I
don't know what device in /dev it maps to (I assume /dev/nst0) or if I
need to do any additional configuration in /etc/sysconfig.

Also, do I do a standard "mount" to mount it to /tmp or something like a

floppy or CD-ROM?

Any help would be appreciated.
