Subject: Types of memory in RS/6000 boxes
Hope you can help
I have an RS/6000 43P model 132 that has 64Mb RAM in it. This machine
needs
upgrading. I have been quoted by IBM for 4 x 32Mb SIMM's at a price of
GBP4000. This is about US6,000

Main issue comes down to IBM maintenance. IBM will allow 3rd party
memory but only in addition to the base memory if you want an IBM
service contract. IBM won't cover 3rd party memory but will allow it
after the base memory so that they can tell if it was their memory or
yours that brought down the system and if it was the 3rd party expect to
be charged for the repair instead of being covered under the
maintenance. IBM used to have an agreement with Kingston but has
terminated that relationship for coverage. PC memory won't work, but
their are several 3rd party manufactures with life time warranties that
will work if you're willing to accept the deal on the IBM maintenance.
E-mail me for a quote if interested.

Dale
