I haven't yet attended the AIX exams. I'm planning to do ASP in the near future.

Have you tried:

http://www.veryComputer.com/

There's a few samples to try.

If anyone else has any other tips for preparing for AIX certification then I'd
be interested to hear them.

You can also try TopCat.  Look through the AIX Certification website.  I liked
TopCat.   Exam is pretty easy.

Haven't done the 4.3 ASP yet; I did the 4.1 and it was a bit of a sod, full
of dbx & crash and the stuff you'll rarely use. The folks at the office that
have done the test say the 4.3 is far more sensible, as does Paul Jagger
(IBM UK education manager at South Bank, CATE and well sharp honcho). The
general comment seems to be 'learn about NIM!', otherwise if you've spent a
reasonable amount of time working on AIX it's straightforward.

Regards,

Derek.

I'm no AIX guru by any means but I thought the exams (support, sysad,
HA, SP) weren't that difficult having worked with them for the past few
years.

I'm just a little amused by how IBM is 'pushing' this certification
thing, IMHO, causing a similar situation to the 'paper MCSE's' we all
tend to make fun of.

Case in point: I got a chance to attend the recent RS/6000 Tech
University in Atlanta.  In many of the sessions, the presenter would say
something like: "Remember this LED code, 553, it will be on the test."
Come on, in real life, I can always look up the LED codes.

Oh well, just my two cents.

ps My boss is rewarding me well for each test passed, so IBM, come on,
here are some suggestions:
AIX History - From RT to SP
AIX - The Psychology of ignoring Users
AIX - /usr/bin/games where's quake?
SSA - Why String when you can Loop?
AIX Issues - pg or more?

ex1.uk.ibm.net/topcat

this is topcats site......very good IMHO.

However, I have not seen anything down to reimbur*t of my accomplishements
from my current employer.  And to the fellow speaking of the AIX exams going
the direction of M$.....there are only 292 CATE in the US at this time.

Good Luck :-)

Statements and suggestions are made in my humble opinion to offer some help.
Enlighten me with more knowledge and let me continue to grow.

Hi

I wrote the exams and received my CATE in Feb 1998
I have not met any other CATEs up here in Canada

Where do you get the number of 292 CATE in the US?

I am curious as to how many there are in the US and in CANADA...

Just wondering.
