Storix or Sysback?

Storix or Sysback?

Post by Paul Rube » Thu, 19 Sep 2002 05:33:44

I have been using Sysback for a while but IBM says I need to upgrade and
the cost is very high. I like the look of Storix features and cost. It
seems to do what Sysback does but has much better features also. I want
to know if anyone has experience with Storix to share. How is support
and is the product reliable? Does this do good mksysb backups for
installing like Sysback? We have a network of 40 systems and one problem
is Sysback is hard to manage all of the backups and network installs.
Thank you.

My support experience with Storix is better then IBM support line(May
be I am outside USA).
I always got response from Storix. Once I was in direct touch with
Tony. During the process I learnt a lot. I use Sysback/6000 and storix
too. Think about Storix in SP2 environment. I have not upgraded
storix. I have to use GUI interface , if I upgrade I would be able to
use smitty and commandline (not smit GUI). I wish storix &sb too)
support libray mode. These days data is too much. Or use storix
(sb/6000 too) only for system image management.

Last 2 years storix (system Image : mksysb) restore had not failed. I
will put storix reliability at the same level as sysback/6000. Untill
someone provides me interesting facts.

Managing 40 systems is hard job!, storix will not eliminate hardship,
but will reduce (If you are not use to good admin, it may increase
too: for example tape label management; ) I think storix will be
better in network install.
I use both products. It is question of cost and liking (I like
sysback/6000 for its non-GUI feature; stotix for SP2 and label
management). For daily 60 to 80 GB data backup I use sysback/6000.

Enjoy,
VKG

Storix or Sysback?

Hi, I appreciate hearing the question and response and would like to add my reply. Thanks
for the compliments, but I fail to understand why you would use both Storix and Sysback.
Storix has command-line backups and restores, as well as SMIT menus for backing up also.
It also creates full system backup and installation with all the Sysback features and
more. I would never insult Sysback (since I originally wrote both), but Storix was
designed to do all that Sysback does but make the backup management much easier and
centralized. What features of Sysback are you using that you are not finding in Storix?

BTW, I'm not sure where we met, but I haven't gone by "Tony" for several years since I
left IBM.
Regards,
Anthony
