How to do DHCP trough a Router (AIX)

Post by Andreas Wizeman » Wed, 21 Feb 2001 22:47:19

Hi,
we do have 2 networks 10.0 and 10.30 with a AIX 433 as router
(IPFORWARDING=1). In 10.0 there is another AIX 433 acting as a DHCP
server. Clients in 10.0 are working fine but clients in 10.30 never
got an answer from DHCP !
What do i need to setup on the AIX Router to send the DHCP requests
from a 10.30 Client to the DHCP server ?
Any hints are welcome !

Thanks
Andreas Wizemann

dhcprd Daemon

Forwards BOOTP and DHCP packets off the local network.

Also, the DHCP server needs to be configured to handle the requests from
10.30.

An alternative is to run DHCP services (dhcpsd) on the "AIX router".

Hi Andreas,

You'll have to configure a box on the 10.30 network to act as a DHCP
relay agent. It will forward the DHCP broadcasts it receives to the
DHCP server on the 10.0 network.

1. How can I browse SAMBA servers trough my linux router?

Hi,
One of my Linux box runs with two ethernet interfaces as a router
runnind routed. Is there a tweak or another daemon who supports that
I can access the SMB servers (and clients) trough the Linux router.

Basically routed should be made transparent to the Netbios broadcast.

Thanks for your help
