These names are used internally within IBM.
5.1.B is AIX 5.1-ML1.
5.1.C is the set of PTFs needed for a p690 ('Regatta') box.
I've also seen it called 'ML1+'.  If you order a p690 you'll
get a set of install media at this level.
5.1.D is not available yet, won't be for quite a while.
It will probably be AIX 5.1-ML2 or 3, whatever the ML number
is when it does come out.

These are IBM Internal ways to refer to incremental releases - there's nno way
to tell directly. What you need to do is to find out what you need a specific
release for, then look up the announcement saying what fixes are required for it
and then install them.

Do an lslpp -h bos.mp (or bos.up) and look at the fileset level.
51B is 5.1.0.10, 51C is 5.1.0.15.  Granted, the comprehensive levels
include more than just kernel updates, but looking at the fix level
(the last number: 10, 15, etc) will give you a general idea of you
OS level.

1. Upgrading from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.1

We have RS6000 with AIX 4.3.3 installed.
We are thinking about upgrading to AIX 5.1.
Hardware is supported in AIX 5.1,but the problem is with software.
We have  IBM UDB 7.1 , IBM Websphere V 3.5 , DCE V 3.1 for AIX.
In the AIX 5.1 Reference manual is written that 32-bit
applications are supported , but on IBM's website
http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/aix/products/ibmsw/list/cd.html
there aren't any mention about those applications for version 5.1.

If anyone has worked on AIX 5.1  and installed and used any of above
mentioned software I would appreciate if he could tell me about his
expirience  and if the software worked.
